The Ctenanthe burle marxii are an evergreen perennial, native to Central and South America (primarily Brazil) and these species are commonly called just Amagris. They are grown for their attractive foliage. The Amagris have elongated, rectangular shaped light green leaves with a striking fine herringbone pattern on the top side of the leaf and a beautiful purple on the underside. They make fantastic underbedding plants because of their low growing habit. Position in a partial to shaded position in your garden. If you have it indoors ensure there is good filtered light. They do best in well-draining soil. Watering when the top layer so soil starts to dry. Remeber to adjust the watering for the different seasons.
